Boats to Arran

Arran mountains image

You can get here easily with Caledonian MacBrayne ferries. Feel free to call us on 01292 313391 if you'd like some help with travel arrangements. The boat trip is an easy 55 minutes and takes in beautiful views of Arran.
Note: If you are bringing your car to Arran, it always advisable to book your ferry crossing in advance, especially in High Season, If you do arrive earlier than expected and there is room, Calmac will always put you on the earlier crossing. Foot passengers do not need to book, but you will require a ticket either purchased online or at the Ferry Terminal.

By Car

Head towards Scotland we are on the left hand side!! The M6 - A74 from England and you will enter Scotland at Gretna. The Ferry is still approximately 2 hours drive from the boarder. There are a number of routes across to the west coast from the A74, the choice is yours. For SatNav the Ferry Terminal address is: - Dock Road, Winton Pier, Ardrossan, KA22 8EW.

Flying to Scotland fly daily from Stansted to Glasgow Prestwick airport. From Glasgow Prestwick you simply take the train towards Glasgow Central and change at Kilwinning, Platform 2 Ardrossan Harbour (Ferry terminal) train departs. fly daily from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Bristol and Belfast International into Glasgow. Again, the train to Ardrossan Harbour runs from Glasgow.

Trains from Airports to Ferry Terminal. Connecting trains from Prestwick Airport (via Kilwinning) and Glasgow International (courtesy bus from Airport to Paisley Gilmore Street) direct to Ardrossan Harbour. The Ferry waits for the Train. If you fly Ryanair, retain your boarding pass, this will qualify you to half price train fare.

Recommended Taxi.

We recommend only one Taxi company based in Saltcoats. Why? Because we use him ourselves. Call Mr Billy Wales on
0044 (0)7887 710488. Billy can collect from Prestwick Airport and take you to the Ferry Terminal, he is very reliable, safe and cheaper than others.

Useful Tips.

Fill up with fuel before you arrive. Petrol on Arran can be 15-20p more than the mainland.
There is a very large Asda Supermarket at the Ferry Terminal (you cannot miss it), the food will be cheaper and a lot more variety then the Co-op stores on the island.
